My mother read the Gene Stratton-Porter books to me when I was a little girl. They formed a major part of my platform for ethics and values, without me even realizing it. You might not love the dated language and settings as much as I did, but it's worth the time to reacquaint yourself with a world that was quaint and tender and untouched by technology. The stories are timeless and the conflicts continue in the human condition today, so the stories never disappoint in their plot and character--even today.
I enjoyed the book's information and stories but they all reference to the production of photographs that were in the original book but are missing from the digital edition. I deducted two stars for the missing plates.
I have the other books by Stratton Porter, starting with Girl of the Limberlost--one of my childhood favorites-- and did not know of the moth
book until I read about the professor who had check the book out at age 8, and found it 60 years later. He insisted on paying the fine when he
returned the book ($436.00 some dollars).
The book tells about collecting the moths that are mentioned in the other books and I am very glad I found it on amazon. Thank You!
I like every book GSP has written..would have liked to have photos or drawings of the moths.
My absolute favorite writer. Fell in love with the Harvester when I was 15 and am still in love at 56. I think I have now read everything still in print that she has ever written. I have also visited her home in Indiana. MAN- she was something else
also what we ordered
This book is one of her non fiction writings. She makes the nature experiences she had interesting and you learn so much. My favorite book of hers is The Girl of the Limberlost. It's an excellent book where you learn about people and also moths and made me want to read this non fiction book to learn even more.
Not a novel but geared toward naturalists.
